Don't Judge, Just Pray
Scripture: John 8:7- “When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
Don’t assume you know the story based on the cover of the book. Instead of judging, just pray. Don’t assume you know their current situation based on the previous circumstance. Don’t judge, just pray.
The homeless person holding the sign, don’t judge them, pray for them. The individual who is fighting to get out of a bad relationship, don’t assume you know it all, pray for them. When you see someone dealing with life, don’t judge their situation, but pray for them. We all have sinned and have fallen short. Everyone at some point or another has been labeled by an assumption. What if no one prayed for us when our issues were being broadcasted from the neighbor’s house, the family table, the tell all phone, or social media? What if we were never a concern and judgement was the verdict for our issue or wrong? I am so glad that God is not like man.
The woman referenced in the scripture was being judged by the people. She had been accused of committing adultery. The crowd wanted to stone her for her sin. Jesus tells them “the person who has no sins should be the first to throw a stone at the woman”. Of course, everyone has sinned, so no one can throw any stones. So, the next time, you feel like stoning someone else with judgement, remember your own sins. Don’t judge just pray. We all have sinned and need God to give us grace and mercy.
Prayer: God, we thank you for grace and mercy. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for allowing us to have the wisdom to check ourselves before we judge another person. We ask that you forgive us for missing the mark. Help us to resort to prayer and allow your spirit to guide us when others are standing in the need of grace. In Jesus Name. Amen
